Lindsay has applied the same concept to her jewelry. Each piece is loaded with color and unusual details that make even plain clothing sing. By primarily using semi-precious stones, Lindsay has been able to keep her Femmegems remarkably affordable--without a compromise in beauty or quality. “I love the sparkle of semi-precious stones, the feel of gorgeous jade or turquoise on your skin, the fun of a unique pendant.” Lindsay says. While working in New York, Lindsay visited a bead store and was convinced she could create fabulous jewelry for half the price of what she would pay on Madison Avenue. Soon friends, colleagues, and bridesmaids were commissioning her designs, and she found herself spending her nights and weekends filling orders. When the owner of a Hamptons boutique tried to buy one of her designs right off her neck, Lindsay realized she could make a living doing what she loved. In 2000, she launched the Femmegems line of jewelry. During the next 2 years, Lindsay noticed her clients’ enthusiasm for playing with her inventory of gemstones, chains and findings, mixing and matching them all to “design their own” pieces of jewelry. Believing that there is a designer in everyone and recognizing NYC’s lack of a retail location catering to that concept, she began to craft a business plan geared toward opening the city’s first sophisticated boutique that would help customers design their own jewelry. Lindsay’s risk taking paid off. Femmegems NoLiTa opened its doors in November 2002 and was lauded for its creativity and singular vision since day one. Shops opened soon after in Henri Bendel, Marshall Fields, and Greenwich, CT. Walls of stones, pendants, and other design elements put the raw materials of extraordinary, personalized jewelry at the customers’ fingertips, along side other designer jewelry collections from New York to LA. Fashion editors, news anchors, and celebs have all bought and created their own pieces at Femmegems – and many have become regulars. Femmegems.com, the first website of its kind offering the design-your-own concept, brings wonderful jewelry to customers who can’t visit the current Femmegems locations in New York or Greenwich, Connecticut. In 2005, Lindsay decided to introduce her vision to an even wider audience and paired with Chronicle Books to create “Get Your Sparkle On: How to Create and Wear the Gems that Make You Shine.” Loaded with gorgeous projects, Lindsay’s book covers not only the basics of gemstone jewelry-making but teaches you how to wear your treasures with wit and style. “Get Your Sparkle On” is available online, in bookstores and through Femmegems.
